Managing Editor: As managing editor you’re the liaison between the SMU Look show, the magazine and online publication. You are in constant communication with the editor-in-chief and the fashion journalism classes. Knowledge of AP style and editing skills are a must. You must be on top of deadlines and have impeccable organization skills.
Senior Editor: As senior editor is basically the right-hand-man of the editor-in-chief. In this position, you help with idea generation for the themes of the magazine, choose the articles that we use for the magazine, as well as edit all of the articles. You also help with the website including writing articles and editing articles. This job requires communication and organization skills.
Assistant Editor: As assistant editor your primary job is to work closely with the editor-in-chief to decide on content for the magazine, copy edit and help with general assignments for the magazine (i.e. assisting with art meetings, photo shoots, etc.). The assistant editor also works closely with the fashion journalism class to get content for the magazine and website. This job requires communication and organization skills.
Creative Director: As creative director you lead the creative team in executing two to three photoshoots. You brainstorm locations, concepts, trends, and clothing for the shoot. You book models, hair/makeup, photographers, and locations. In addition, you contact stores to pull clothing from. This is a deadline driven job.
Style Editor & Assistant Style Editor: As style editor/ assistant style editor you assist with any needs of the creative team. You help brainstorm ideas for shoots, pull clothing, contact stores, photographers, models, hair/makeup artists, and coordinate them for shoots. You also help with setup, outfit changes, and give opinions/suggestions during shoots.
Fashion Editor: As fashion editor you assist the creative team in all things listed above with a heavy hand in styling, clothing selection, and overall visual concepts for photoshoots. Additionally, you work with the editorial team to create unique and original photos to put in the magazine. Your goal is to have all original photos in the magazine.
Digital Director: Oversees the digital presence of the SMU Look. Edits and publishes content to the website, holds writers accountable for weekly articles/columns, communicates with Fashion Journalism professors to gather content from their classes, works with social media manager to make sure content is consistent and regular. Should be familiar with Camayak and AP Style, and comfortable working with many writers and SMU professors. Potentially will need to start an email newsletter.
Assistant Digital Editor: As assistant digital editor you assist the digital editor with editing the fashion journalism class pieces and SMULook.com stories. You will brainstorm ideas with staff writers during weekly meeting and submit stories for SMULook.com weekly. Must be comfortable working with Camayak.
Culture Writer: As the culture writer for SMULook.com you write weekly stories about anything that is trending. From new restaurants, to new style trends, to new products. You will cover all things that are popular in our culture, as well as contributing to the duties of fellow SMULook.com writers. You must also have the capability to provide SMU Look with content ideas, editing skills (AP Style), and creativity.
Beauty Writer: As the beauty writer for SMULook.com your job is to write weekly stories on cosmetics, skin care, hair care, etc. covering products and trends, as well as contributing to the duties of fellow SMULook.com writers. You must also have the capability to provide SMU Look with content ideas, editing skills (AP Style), and creativity.
Fashion Writer: As the fashion writer for SMULook.com your job is to write weekly stories on all things fashion–trends, shows, new designers, etc… as well as contributing to the duties of fellow SMULook.com writers. You must also have the capability to provide SMU Look with content ideas, editing skills (AP Style), and creativity.
Social Media Manager: As the social media manager, you are in charge of posting on-brand original content daily to generate media buzz around blog posts, magazine launches, and events. The job of social media manager not only boosts following but allows the SMU Look team to be more interactive with students on campus and the Dallas community at large.
Marketing Director: As marketing director you are responsible for directing and deciding on all marketing and advertising efforts for the SMU Look brand and publication. This includes reaching out to businesses to advertise in the magazine and on the website, plan SMU Look sponsored events, direct sales assistants, and distribution.
Sales Assistant (2) & Sales/Marketing Manager: As sales assistant or Sales/Marketing Manager duties include reaching out to businesses to sell ads in the magazine. You help gather and maintain connections with stores, assist in planning events, distribution, and overall brand image. Communication and diligence are key skills necessary to be successful at this position.
Art Director: As Art Director you are in charge of the layout and design of the magazine. You lead the art team to create everything visual for the magazine and work closely with the editor-in-chief. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, designing graphics, and editing photos are a MUST. Heavy workload at the end of the semester. Must work well in fast-pace high-pressure environment.
Assistant Art Director (3): As Assistant Art Director you are in charge of the layout and design of the magazine using Adobe Creative Suite. Designing graphics, editing photos, and re-design of advertisements are your other duties. Heavy workload at the end of the semester. Must work well in fast-pace high-pressure environment.
