Take a Look: Molly Patrick

Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, SMU junior Molly Patrick is seriously impressive. She’s majoring in Political Science, Economics, and Public Policy, and her campus involvement is seemingly endless: she was originally a First Year Senator, and has since served as Student Body Vice President, Student Concerns Committee Chair, Student Representative to the Code of Conduct Board, and Student Representative to the Committee on the Revision to the Code of Conduct. She’s also a member of Delta Gamma sorority, and is running to become this year’s Student Body President. Read on to get to know a little more about Molly!

Describe yourself in three words.

Confident, dependable, sophisticated.

What’s your style?

Classy, chic, and trendy.

What’s your theme song?

Boss Bitch by Doja Cat

Why SMU?

I fell in love with SMU the minute I stepped on campus. I loved the atmosphere, the people, the work environment, and the amazing opportunities this school offers!

Describe your journey. How’d you get here? What drove you to run for Student Body President?

As my term as Student Body Vice President has drawn to an end, I still feel a call to action and a call to serve this University. I can’t think of a better or more sensible way than to continue my participation in Student Senate as Student Body President. I don’t want to waste the relationships I’ve built with administrators or the ideas I have to better this campus. The simple answer is that I’m just not done! I’m not done trying to make the school I love more sustainable, transparent, safe, and more inclusive and supportive of students and their experience.

What is your “why”? Why do you do want you to do?

My “why” is my love for SMU. What gets me up in the morning is my devotion and passion to make this school the best version of itself. You can’t deny that we go to an amazing school. But, it certainly has its flaws. My “why” is wanting to fix those flaws and to make SMU the best place to call Home.

What’s your uniform (i.e. what you wear on the daily)?

Definitely a sweater and jeans or leggings.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

A cheese board.

What’s your greatest achievement?

I would say becoming Student Body Vice President. However, it’s not my greatest achievement because of the title or the power, but because of what I’ve gotten to accomplish in the role. I’ve gotten to work with some amazing students and administrators to bring a campus-wide safety app, which acts as a mobile blue light, that will be rolling out soon, place flex inside Ford Stadium for the upcoming football season, and work on bringing a S.A.N.E. nurse on campus. The position has given me a great platform and voice to bring the change we want to see on campus and I only hope to continue that as Student Body President.

What’s your go-to accessory?

I love a good knot headband!

What’s your favorite fashion trend?

I love this headband trend! It may be old, but I’m definitely going to carry it on.

If you could walk the runway for one fashion designer, who would it be and why?

Guccio Gucci! I’m in love with the women’s business dresses and sets with their fun patterns and bright colors.

Why do you think you’re the best fit to be SMU’s Student Body President?

I strongly believe my experience makes me the best fit. Every candidate on the ballot has been in Senate. But as Student Concerns Committee Chair and Student Body Vice President, my job these past two years has been to hear every student’s voice and implement solutions to issues on campus. The Student Body President role has these same responsibilities: to listen to our student body, enact change on campus, and to voice our concerns and suggestions to administration. With two years successfully doing just this, I’m more than ready to take on this position.
