Spotlight on: Nickel & Suede

This week, Nickel & Suede, a Kansas City-based jewelry company, opened its newest store in West Village. The boutique itself was a feast for the senses. As my friend and I walked in, we were immediately greeted by the enticing aroma of leather and a dazzling array of earrings lining every wall. The storefront also had an adorable balloon display outside, rosé (in adult Capri-Sun bags with silly straws, of course), stickers, and freshly baked cookies.

The brand’s CEO, Kilee Nickels, from which the brand gets part of its name, showed us around the store and told us a bit about Nickel & Suede. “Our goal is for every person who walks into Nickel & Suede to feel welcome, empowered, and brave enough to try something new. When you walk through our doors, you are joining a community of like-minded women who love to build each other up.” She continued, “we are so excited to expand to Dallas because Texas is our second largest market. We knew our lightweight statement earrings would fit right in with Dallas and their love of big hair and big accessories. The Dallas store takes everything we learned and loved about our Kansas City stores, and elevates every aspect so we could create a fun and confidence-boosting shopping experience. We believe confidence is beautiful, and we designed the Dallas store to create an atmosphere that embodies that spirit. We invite Dallasites into our Nickel & Suede community and can’t wait to meet everyone in our West Village store!”

From red and blue leather hoops–designed specifically for SMU students–to metallic leather earrings that look exactly like a pair of gold or silver hoops, Nickel & Suede has every statement piece your jewelry collection needs.

In fact, according to the sales assistants at Nickel & Suede, unlike chunky brass or metal statement earrings, leather earrings are so light that you’ll barely notice they’re there. Not only does this reduce the strain on your ear lobes, but it means you can sleep in them with no problem; something we can all appreciate after a night out.

Not only did Nickel & Suede have a stunning array of leather earrings, but it also had stud earrings, bracelets, and rings. I bought two rings, one simple rose gold band and a gold knot band, that will be a nice refresh to my everyday jewelry lineup, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I returned to get a pair of gold and red leather drop earrings before homecoming this weekend.
