Red carpet season reaches its height this Sunday at the 90th annual Academy Awards. Can’t keep up with all the nominations? Here’s what you need to know for the 2018 Oscars.
First, the fashion. Although we saw a lot of black dress all season long in honor of the Time’s Up movement, it seems unclear if attendees will wear all black again. One of the producers for the show said ideally, the show can honor the movement while still making it entertaining and lighthearted. Perhaps we will see a little more color with the addition of Time’s Up buttons.
Jimmy Kimmel will host for the second year in a row. Last year, in a Steve Harvey-style mix-up, Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty awarded the wrong movie with the title of Best Picture. Moonlight won the award in 2017, but not before the whole La La Land cast and crew came on stage after their film was mistakenly called. Here’s hoping Kimmel and company have better luck this year.
Finally, there are a few movies to keep your eye on this Sunday. “The Shape of Water” leads the pack with 13 nominations. “Dunkirk” received eight nominations, while Golden Globe best picture “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” received seven. Meryl Streep broke her own record for the most nominations in history for her role in “The Post”, making it her twenty-first nomination. Other titles to look out for are “Phantom Thread”, “Lady Bird”, “Get Out” and “Call Me By Your Name.”
