Describe yourself in three words.
Hard-working, fun, and sentimental.
What’s your ‘why’? Why do you do what you do?
Because I love people. I try to find the most opportunities to get involved with people, talk to people, and learn about their histories and how we all came to the same place.
Describe your journey. How’d you get here?
When I was in the 7th grade, I bought a sign from Pier 1 Imports, and it said: “live, laugh, love.” That, I think, describes my journey to this day. I’m being one hundred and ten percent serious. Because I’ve lived, I’ve laughed, and, surprisingly, I’ve loved. So even on my low days, I think it’s important to remember to live, to laugh, and to love.
Describe your personal style.
I like to push the boundaries in terms of gender, ‘cause gender is a social construct, and that’s on that. I like to go for things that I don’t have. For example, if I go shopping and I see a pink sweater and I’m like ‘oh, I don’t have a pink sweater,’ I’ll buy it. So that translates into my wardrobe. I’ll have a bunch of mismatched things, and I’ll bring it together into a look, kind of like a game.
I wanted to go to a school where I could take risks and meet as many new people as possible, pursue academic opportunities, and make my college experience truly my own. But, I didn’t want to get lost in a sea of people, so SMU is the perfect size for me. If Goldilocks were choosing between universities, she would choose SMU. It’s not too big where you’re just one-in-a-million, but it’s not so small that you’re limited by lack of resources or lack of support.
A tall iced caramel macchiato with almond milk, please, and light ice.
I honestly would say coming to SMU. Because, you know, I’m here as a President’s Scholar. It’s a testament to my hard work and my work ethic, and I’m glad to be on campus and to give back.
What’s your uniform?
I love a strong flare jean or a bell bottom, there aren’t enough for men. Then I’d tuck in a ringer T-shirt, throw on a jean jacket and some pink shades, put on some platforms, and then I would just add some lip gloss. That would be my day-to-day if I were living my ideal life.
Who’s your celebrity crush?
from the Bachelorette.
Who would play you in the movie of your life
Considering the lack of South Asian actors in Hollywood, I’m kind of restricted to Kunal Nayyar or the guy from “The Big Sick” (’s name, but he looks like me, and he’s in an episode of “Suite Life of Zack and Cody”. Floss, I’ve got beef in my teeth? That dude ( ).). But I would have to say, I don’t know this actor
Early Bird or Night Owl?
Favorite SMU activity?
Honestly, I can’t describe it as one activity, and I know that sounds so cliché, but it’s the organizations and the events they put on. Not only the staple ones, like Programs Council events, Student Foundation events, but also just the ones that come up. Like when the Sigma Lambda Betas sell tacos at the flagpole, stuff like that.
What’s your superpower?
My superpower would be to convince people of anything.
Anything else crucial to getting to know you?
I like to paint my nails every week, a different color because I like to keep it fresh, I’m an Aquarius, and I was born on the same day as, she’s my idol.
