Savoring the Season: Fall Movies and Shows to Enjoy with the best Seasonal Treats

By Margo Washburne

As October comes to a close and November is on the horizon, it is time to begin properly celebrating fall: by grabbing a blanket, a snack, and turning on the remote. I’m here to share some of the most beloved fall movies and TV shows paired with the perfect snack or drink to get you into the fall mood despite Texas’ hot weather.

There could not be a list of fall movies and shows without including “Gilmore Girls.” This show follows the mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore living in their quaint town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Since they are regulars at Luke’s Diner, the perfect pairing would be channeling your inner Lorelai with coffee, of course! Mamaka Bowls, which just opened on McKinney, has a range of pumpkin lattes for the fall, making this the perfect pairing for binge-watching. You cannot go wrong with their pumpkin froth iced latte or pumpkin froth iced chai among others.

Nothing says Texas school spirit quite like “Friday Night Lights.” This iconic series follows the fall football season in small-town Texas. If you are in the mood to pick something easy up, the green chili queso at Torchy’s Tacos is a favorite. So grab this queso on SMU Boulevard, maybe some tacos while you are at it, and you may feel like you are in Coach Taylor’s home. Clear eyes, full stomachs; you can’t lose.

A classic rom-com “When Harry Met Sally” features New York in the fall as its seasonal backdrop. The two main characters, Harry and Sally, have scenes surrounded by vibrant fall foliage, making Trader Joe’s Fall Leaf Corn Tortilla Chips the perfect snack to enjoy with this movie. You can pair it with queso, salsa, or your favorite dip. “I’ll have what she’s having!”

I am not one for anything spooky, but “Wednesday” is the perfect quick binge-worthy show around Halloween. It follows Wednesday Addams as she begins life at a new mysterious school, Nevermore Academy. For this reason, the iconic Pillsbury cookies in the ghost shape would be a perfect addition to a watch party. With only one season out right now, this is great when you do not know what to watch.

If you are looking for something on the cozier side, “Little Women” is the perfect movie. Following four sisters through different phases of their lives, this movie is full of heartwarming moments and gives a glimpse into the multifaceted March family. This would be a great choice for a homey Friendsgiving with all of your closest companions. If you have limited in options due to living in the dorms or just do not have time to whip something up yourself, the family size of Flower Child’s Gluten Free Mac and Cheese is an instant crowd-pleaser. The combination of watching “Little Women” while eating this delicious dish is sure to cure any homesickness you may have.

“Ginny & Georgia” is a series that has many twists and turns, primarily focusing on mother and daughter Ginny and Georgia. The small-town Massachusetts setting, especially during autumnl, adds charm to the show. The series has lots of drama but is coupled with humor. A Dallas favorite, JD’s Chippery muffins would be the perfect food to enjoy while watching the antics of the show. Whether you choose the Pumpkin Muffin or Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffin, the show nor the food will be disappointing.

HONORABLE MENTION: GOSSIP GIRL

Although I do not categorize “Gossip Girl” as an autumnal show, it deserves an honorable mention for its iconic Thanksgiving episodes. Queue “Whatcha Say” by Jason Derulo and dive into these hours of drama-packed gold. Going off of Eric Van Der Woodsen’s iconic line, “Your sweet potatoes are bland,” I think it is more than fitting to grab the perfect side dish of Trader Joe’s Mashed Sweet Potatoes and make sure no one can say this about you.

So, as the leaves change and you can begin to feel the atmosphere of fall when walking around campus, it is the perfect time to embrace all it will bring by watching these movies and TV shows. Whether you are sipping on pumpkin lattes while being entertained by the witty humor of “Gilmore Girls” or enjoying the comfort of Mac and Cheese with “Little Women,” these pairings are sure to get you excited for sweater weather.
