Behind the Scenes Look at Editor-in-Chief India Pougher

Our very own Editor-in-Chief may be leaving SMU, but she isn’t leaving the fashion world behind. This Virginia Beach native is ready to handle whatever the universe throws at her after graduation, and with two semesters of leading the SMU Look team under her belt, she’ll have no problem leaving a legacy.

So you’re SMU Look’s Editor-in-Chief —what does that mean and what do you do?

I touch every part of the magazine before it goes to print, but specifically I choose and edit all of the stories that you see. It’s my job to examine things from every angle.

You’re a senior—what are you majoring in and what do you hope to do after graduation?

I’m majoring in journalism and fashion media, and I hope to work for either a magazine or digital media publication after graduation.

What is the most rewarding part about being EIC for SMU Look?

Seeing everyone’s reactions to each issue!

What is the biggest thing you learned after the first edition of SMU Look came out last semester?

Leading a team means taking responsibility for every aspect of a project. I always double check to make sure we’ve crossed our “t’s” and dotted our “i’s.”

What is your go-to piece of clothing/ a staple piece everyone has to have in their closet?

Leopard print slip-on tennis shoes. As the great Jenna Lyons said, “as far as I’m concerned leopard is a neutral.”

What is something weird about you that no one would know?

I’m obsessed with podcasts…my favorites are “Fat Mascara” and Vanity Fair’s “In The Limelight.”

If you had to wear one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Something black.

If you had to pick one crayon color to use for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Wisteria!

If you could have any kind of donut in the world right now, what would you order?

I don’t like donuts (I know, I freaked out too).

T-shirts or actual pajamas person?

Matching pajama sets always.

And your favorite emoji?
