Tucked away in West Village lies BAM, a posh and beautiful blow dry bar. Walking into BAM, the marble countertops, the gray sophisticated palate with gold accents, and of course, the wall covered from floor to ceiling with handmade flowers give off a luxurious French inspired vibe. Upon arrival, I was offered champagne, and shown to a comfy white chair. Blow dryers were running, trendy music played in the background, and TV screens showed haute couture fashion shows. It is very common that SMU students splurge on a blowout for a special occasion, such as a formal. However, some women have made these services part of their routine every day. While there are many options in the Dallas area to get a blow out, like competitors Drybar, Blo, or your local salon, BAM offers a membership for $295 per month, which includes unlimited blowouts or makeup application for just under $10 per day.
Owner and SMU alum, Mora Namdar, says she came up with the idea when clients said they wanted to come every day.
“We tried to make it the price point of getting a couple of lattes a day,” she says.
Many other blow dry bars offer package deals for discounted prices, but none of them offer the same membership opportunity.
Clients with this membership can get a blowout, dry style or makeup application every single day of the month, and women take advantage of it. “We have a great returning clientele. We have people that come here every day,” Namdar says.

Women are beginning to retire their blow dryers and curling irons and visit places like BAM more frequently. With the fast-paced world we live in today, there is no doubt that express and specialized service providers are dominating the industry. According to Modernsalon.com, “Blow dry bars and salons are the new, emerging trend in salon business models, with 25 percent growth in both service revenues and locations across the United States.”
Blow dry bars cater to the working woman, the woman going out on the town, and the woman who just wants to be pampered. BAM beauty bar offers a VIP experience and clients leave feeling fabulous. Blowouts a la carte are $45 and makeup applications start at $35
Namdar came up with the idea of BAM after she realized that people enjoy her aesthetic and makeup applications. “It occurred to me that no place like this exists. It’s hair and makeup in a chic atmosphere for a reasonable price,” she says. BAM was created so women could come relax, feel beautiful, and have access to the best products and styling tools. BAM carries Balmain hair couture as well as its own line of hair and makeup products, along with T3 styling tools, and the highly sought-after Dyson blow dryer.
Clearly, BAM Beauty Bar has a competitive advantage over other similar business models in the area. They have created a membership that allows women to get a luxurious service every day. With the idea of getting a blowout for the price of Starbucks, who could resist? Membership definitely has its privileges.
