Take a Look: Taylor Rudell

Get to know Taylor Rudell: an SMU senior majoring in Fashion Media with a double minor in Corporate Communications and Public Affairs and Advertising. With a style she describes as “contemporary, rustic, and versatile,” this Friendswood, Texas native is our latest style obsession.

“I like to keep up with new trends but add my own twist to it. Most of my outfits have a vintage feel to it,” said Rudell.

Drawing inspiration from bloggers like @theoceanminded, @highendhippie, @thesaltyblonde and @huntforstyles, Rudell shops heavily at stores like Free People, Anthropologie, Reformation and Rag + Bone.

“I tend to get my jeans from Rag + Bone, dresses from Reformation and a little bit of everything from Free People and Anthropologie. I buy a lot of my accessories from Free People like sunglasses, necklaces and scrunchies,” said Rudell.

She says much of her personal style has been shaped by her mother.

“She always would let me try on her clothes and shoes when I was younger,” said Rudell. “My mom lives on a ranch so she layers a lot of her clothes with different jackets and scarves. My mother taught me to wear color, even though my go-to is black.”

Rudell’s biggest piece of fashion advice is to develop a signature style that makes you feel comfortable and confident in the clothing that you wear.

“When a person feels good in their outfit, they standout,” said Rudell. “I also think staple pieces are the most important. I am always on the lookout for basic tees and jeans. Once you have that you can style it however you like with jackets and belts or whatever accessory of your choosing. My personal favorite are hats. Most importantly don’t be afraid to try something new.”

“I love this Free People necklace because it looks like multiple layered chains when it is really one.”

“One of my favorite accessories is a hat. This hat is a Stetson. I love wearing it with a simple dress or a basic tee and jeans.”

“I wear jackets a lot and right now my favorite jacket is a Free People white denim jacket with fringe.”

“My favorite pair of shoes are these Frye boots. They are the most comfortable boots and they go with everything.”
