Back to the Boulevard

Welcome to SMU, new mustangs! Considering it has been over a year since boulevarding last happened, allow me to give a brief overview. Boulevarding is a long-held tradition within the SMU community. This is the SMU equivalent to tailgating. While there technically is no dress code, students at the hilltop like to go above and beyond to showcase their stylish outfits on game day! Game days are a fun chance to sport your school colors while simultaneously showing off your style. You really can do no wrong, but if you need a little inspiration, here are a few curated examples of cute and elevated boulevard looks!

As I even learned recently, it is tradition to wear white to the first home game of every season. I chose this flirty Jonathan Simkhai dress. The puff sleeve detail of the dress sets yours apart from the other white dresses in the crowd. This dress is something that can be dressed up with a chunky heel or dressed down with sneakers. Personally, sneakers are my thing, but if you want to rock a heel, get it, girl! For accessories, I selected some knotted gold earrings and a small red crossbody of your choosing. Ford Stadium requires clear bags or small clutch-sized bags. I used this one last year.

Now, this outfit is for those who aren’t afraid to show off a little Texas pride! Denim is an excellent alternative to the classic “SMU Blue” when it comes to game day outfits. I paired this sleeveless retrofete dress with a unique pair of Miron Crosby boots. To top it off, I chose a pair of lucite earrings and a pair of blue-toned sunglasses to tie in a more monochromatic look.

Finally, there’s the classic red dress. This outfit is perfect for looking trendy yet minimal while remaining in the SMU color scheme. I paired this ruffled Amanda Uprichard frock with these clear chunky heeled sandals from Steve Madden to take this look to the next level. In addition to that, I picked out a pair of oversized sunglasses and the cutest jelly purse– the perfect size for the stadium!

Like I said at the beginning, you really can’t go wrong with your boulevard outfits. Get out there, have fun, and most importantly– show off your Mustang pride!
