Did TikTok create the “Cool Girl” style?

When scrolling through any fashion girl’s for your page, there are videos of girls wearing an effortless and chic outfit, layered jewelry, a mini top handle bag and of course, a slicked Olaplex bun. But, where did this style originate from?

It is no secret that TikTok is the biggest influence of all. It’s perfectly calculated and scarily accurate algorithm curates your feed to exactly what you want to see. And, if you are anything like me, it’s a lot of fashion! Some of the biggest creators of the “cool girl” style are Tinx, Emma Chamberlin, Brittany Xavier, Suede Brooks and basically almost every other young female influencer on TikTok. It’s so fascinating to see how each of them wears this style and how it inspires other girls to do the same.

But what is this “cool girl” aesthetic and style? It is a street style characterized by cropped tees, straight-leg jeans or low-rise pants, a fresh blowout or tight updo, claw clips, matching sets and sneakers. Here are a few looks that perfectly embody this style.

TikTok has created a space where all different styles of fashion are embraced and created. There are so many other TikTok fashion icons that rock their own style regardless of what others have to say like Leonie Hane, Sara Camposarcone, Xendia Adonts and Caroline Vazzana.
