Gut Health & Glow-Ups: Why Colostrum Is the New ‘It’ Supplement

By Sophia Pardo

For the girlies on wellnessTok, it might not be breaking news that there is a newfound fascination with colostrum. I see daily videos on my “For You” page of creators scooping it into their coffee or mixing with electrolyte powders in their large water bottles. Colostrum is having it’s moments in the wellness space and it reaps in benefits for the body as more products are being pushed out into the market, it can feel overwhelming with which to splurge on and which have the cleanest ingredients. Alas, another wellness guide to help navigate your colostrum journey.

Former SMU student and content creator Maya Basra is who I credit most for initially piquing my interest.

“The second I started taking colostrum my skin got better, I was getting sick less frequently and my gut health turned a corner,” Basra said.

Colostrum is being pushed mainstream and is now very prevalent in the wellness scene. As conversations and buzz about the nutrients continue to arise, it feels more relevant than ever to discuss what more and more people are consuming and implementing into their health routines.

Look, I’m not going to lie—if you’d rather not know what colostrum is and get grossed out easily, maybe skip this article or just scroll down to my top three colostrums on the market. But the science behind it is something we need to dissect.

Colostrum is the first form of milk produced by any mammal following birth. Because of that, the milk is very nutrient-dense, with lots of protein, essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and antibodies; essentially, it’s good for your immune system. As a college student who tries to escape whatever frat flu or SMU plague is going around campus, it is smart to implement it into your routine. Additionally, colostrum has been proven to help some people with gut health and decrease bloating, which is something I’m also passionate about as I aim to live a holistic lifestyle.

Consuming the product can be pretty easy and not as gross as you might think. With the invention of powdered colostrum hitting the market, I find that putting a couple of scoops in my morning iced coffee or just straight into my water makes it go down easily. Honestly, I don’t even notice that I’m drinking anything besides water.

As a self-proclaimed health and wellness consumer and someone who will try almost anything, here are my top three colostrums on the market. I narrowed them down based on the quality of ingredients, taste, and overall reception.

Arma Colostrum

This is my favorite colostrum right now and something I use daily. I buy the unflavored one, as I find that works best for me, but I have tried the peach-flavored colostrum, and it really is delicious. The flavor reminds me of any sort of flavored water but isn’t too sweet or sugary like many supplemental drink powders tend to be.

Cowboy Colostrum

The brand calls its vanilla colostrum “Nature’s Gold,” and I think they’re onto something. I originally discovered this brand through influencer Sam Tahan and saw how she used the vanilla flavor in her iced morning coffee. After trying it, I can attest that it really is quite yummy. As a vanilla latte lover, adding a scoop of this to my morning cold brew with some almond milk is something I look forward to and crave.

The Skinny Confidential Beauty Salt

The Skinny Confidential’s newest product, the Beauty Salt, is something I am dying to get my hands on. I just know Lauryn—the beauty and brains behind the company—definitely delivered with this product. Her products are always top-notch. From her ice roller and dry brush to her mouth tape and caffeinated sunscreen, Bosstick is meticulous with her design and details, optimizing and delivering results that aim to exceed what others are offering.

What’s most interesting about the Beauty Salt is that it’s not just colostrum. The product also contains electrolytes to promote hydration and detoxification, and most intriguing to me, pearl powder. According to the website, “Strengthens hair, skin & nails: Used for centuries in Chinese beauty practices, pearl powder is known to stimulate collagen production, support an even skin tone, and strengthen hair, skin, and nails due to its rich calcium content.”

This product doesn’t just meet your colostrum needs—it includes other elements to better your mind and body.

Whether you’re looking to boost your immune system, improve gut health, or simply hop on the latest wellness trend, colostrum is definitely having its moment. With so many brands offering high-quality options, it’s easier than ever to find one that fits seamlessly into your routine.
