Fossil Rim is located just two hours from Dallas and home to over 25 species nearing extinction. The wildlife center protects animals such as giraffes, cheetahs, zebras, rhinoceroses, and so many more.

One of the best things about Fossil Rim is that you can drive your own car through the wildlife center. The animals can freely walk up to the cars and peak their heads through the windows to say hello. You’ll seriously get that safari feel!

“I didn’t expect the animals to come right up to the car, but they did so fearlessly and would even put their whole head in the car which was really cool. It was a little scary at first but the animals were very friendly,” said Courtney Prosniewski who visited Fossil Rim last fall.

The wildlife center also offers guided sunrise and behind the scenes tours which allow you to see even more animals, you wouldn’t see if you drove alone.

A day spent at Fossil Rim makes a great date or day with friends while making you feel a million miles away from home.

“What surprised me the most was how much it looked and felt like a safari, not a drive-through zoo. The animal to human interaction was really unexpected and I honestly felt like I was in Africa, not Texas,” Prosniewski said.

There so much more to come with Fossil Rim Wildlife Center X SMU Look…Stay tuned for the spring magazine!
