Finals season and long nights in the library go hand in hand, yet after awhile, we all need a change of scenery. Lucky for SMU students, Dallas has an endless selection of coffee shops and cafes to explore. Here are a few options that are worthy of being added to your study spot rotation:
Since its opening, Sadelle’s has cemented itself as a Highland Park staple. While you most likely know the restaurant, the cafe, located inside the restaurant, is a hidden gem. Enjoy Sadelle’s beloved retro aesthetic while sitting at a quiet table upstairs, or snag a spot outside to soak up some vitamin D while enjoying an iced vanilla latte and a homemade gluten-free bagel.
Next up is Halcyon, a versatile coffee shop located in Lower Greenville. Begin your visit with a group review session in the cafe area, and then treat yourself to brunch with your friends as a well-deserved study break. For those of legal age, this unique spot is also known for their cocktail bar, which offers handcrafted beverages, in addition to their extensive coffee menu. For those looking for a cozy caffeine fix, I suggest the Vietnamese coffee with almond milk or a latte with brown sugar and sage syrup-perfect for helping you power through those review packets.
I have recently become a big fan of Merit’s high quality coffee and beautiful latte designs. My favorite menu item is the oat milk cappuccino with half pump of white chocolate or the strawberry matcha, which is the perfect choice to satisfy your sweet tooth. Merit, which has multiple locations throughout Dallas, is an ideal spot for those who appreciate a quiet study environment.
A new find, that I’ll be frequenting during reading week, is White Rhino Coffee in Uptown. This neighborhood spot is two stories and provides both indoor and outdoor seating if you need a change of scenery during your study session. White Rhino Coffee also offers a full menu with delicous avocado toast and an extensive array of pastries to satisfy your cravings.
It wouldn’t be a SMU study spot guide without mentioning Foxtrot. Their fruit loop matcha is a must-try, and their market section has a snack selection that’s a food lover’s dream. Whether you’re grinding out that final paper, meeting up with friends post-exam, or want to recharge while enjoying great people-watching, Foxtrot has it all.
Those are just a few of the many fantastic coffee shops Dallas has to offer. Here are some other local sports that would also be great study locations: La La Land Kind Cafe, Sip and Stir, Village Baking Co., Bird Bakery, and White Rock Coffee.
