Mastering Styling Baby Tees

By Charlotte Pompa

If you haven’t already hopped on the baby tee trend, it is about time you did. Whether you’re going to class or heading out for a night in Dallas, these tiny tees blend comfortability and style, offering a fashionable alternative to simple tops. After months of curating my baby tee collection, here are my go-to destination to shop for them and how I style them from day to night:

Where to shop:

While brands like Skims offer basic, solid-colored tees for a clean and minimalist look, I prefer mine to have interesting designs to elevate my outfits and add a little edge. Reformation’s Muse Tees fit perfectly in this category due to their artistic and trendy designs. The tees are offered in various unique designs that are guaranteed to stand out. My favorite among the collection is their Playing Cards tee because of its western-inspired design.

Another essential spot to shop for tees is Réalisation Par. I have seen their ‘Topless!’ baby tee trending on social media and throughout SMU’s campus. This plain white shirt, adorned with the vintage red car graphic, adds a little spice and a vibrant pop of color to what would otherwise be an average white tee. Pair this top with a pair of red shoes to really accentuate the cherry red color.

Recently, while scrolling through TikTok, I came across the brand: In Print We Trust. With their variety of unique graphics, you are guaranteed to find a one-of-a-kind tee. Although they have baby tees, I have found myself obsessing over their traditional graphic tees. You can also size down in their graphic tees to achieve the desired cropped effect of the baby tee. They have many designs, available in various colors, so you are bound to find one you love.

Because baby tees were born in the 2000s, trust the brand that did it best back then: Fiorucci. Fiorucci’s Cherries Graphic Baby T-shirt in black is perfect for the Y2K girl who wants to add a bold element to her outfit. Although these tees are pricier, you are guaranteed never to find anything quite like it.

For class:

Baby tees are a perfect and easy option for everyday wear. Ditch your sweats for your most comfortable jeans and a baby tee if you’re in search of a more put-together look for class. I alternate through my tee collection with my Re/Done Originals 90s High Rise Loose jeans, a denim must-have in my opinion. It feels like a new outfit each time but is simply a variation of a baby tee with the same jeans. I finish my outfit with a pair of sneakers that complement the color of the shirt. If nothing matches, my reliable plain white Sambas always do the trick.

Want to have a cozy day? Skip the over-sized sweatshirt and throw on a baby tee with sweatpants. If comfort is your goal, this combination allows you to look more presentable with little effort. My go-to lounge sweatpants are Brandy Melville’s Rosa Sweatpants in light gray. This color pairs perfectly with any color or style of baby tee, making them the perfect staple sweatpants to have in your closet.

For going out:

Swap the jeans and sneakers for a mini-skirt and tall, knee-high boots for a chic going-out outfit. Too cold for a skirt? Black leather pants and your favorite heels have never failed to complete a look. Blow out your hair or slick it back into a bun for the ultimate cool-girl look. Place a black blazer or bomber jacket over your shoulders to add a touch of sophistication and protect you during Dallas winters.

When dressing up a baby tee, it’s all about accessories. Elevate this outfit by adding layered necklaces, stacked rings, and chunky gold hoop earrings. Grab a purse that matches the color of the design on your preferred tee to create a cohesive look.

No outfit is complete without confidence. Whether walking to class or into a bar, feeling good will automatically make you glow brighter than anyone else in the room. Look and feel your best in these stylish yet comfortable tees, and you’ll surely turn heads wherever you go.
