Last Saturday, the SMU Association of Black Students hosted its annual fashion show celebrating Black History Month.

This year’s theme, “#BlackIsFashion,” was represented through the four different style categories displayed throughout the show. The four style categories the blueprint, alternative, bold and elegant were chosen to represent the numerous ways in which Black individuals present themselves within the world today.

Host and ABS Member, Kayla Earl interacts with the crowd.

“We just want more representation of Black models,” Feavan Fesil, the event organizer said. “Just recognize, see and support us, while continuing to love us in the process.”

The show not only highlighted Black fashion, but put the spotlight on talented Black students within the SMU community; like senior, Matthew Merritt who performed a breathtaking cover of “For Once in My Life”, by the legendary Stevie Wonder.

This display of both Black fashion and talent made for an impactful and unforgettable evening.
