What We Loved in January

By Tyler Martin

SMU Look Staff’s favorites from last month.

A new year means new favorites. In the month of January, SMU Look members tried countless popular products from skincare to food to accessories. Here are the staff picks for the best products to shop right now:

Lilly Jach – Dr Barbara Sturm Better B Serum

Dr. Barbara Sturm, The Better B Niacinamide Serum, $145

Back in November, some of the staff members were lucky enough to attend a masterclass at the Dr. Barbara Sturm spa in Highland Park Village. Among many amazing products tested, this niacinamide serum was a major favorite.

Kristen Dillard – Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Serum and Moisturizer

This TikTok popular combo is perfect for achieving lifted, firmer-looking skin with resveratrol, hyaluronic acid, and vegan collagen. This combo (sold separately) works on any skin type and is guaranteed to leave you glowing.

Anna Barbieri – Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

Paula’s Choice, 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, $34

People swear by Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. Anna says that “it’s literally transformed [her] skin and [she’s] so obsessed”. This is a must-try for combating pores and an uneven skin tone.

Drishti Sachdeva – Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

Laura Mercier, Translucent Loose Setting Powder, $43

This smoothing setting powder is a cult favorite to instantly minimize shine. Everyone loves a glowy makeup look, but no one wants to look greasy. This instantly cuts down shine and leaves you with the perfect, natural finish.

Ivy Nielsen – Dark Chocolate Mini Heart Cookies from Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe’s, Dark Chocolate Mini Heart Cookies, $13

These heart-shaped cookies from Trader Joe’s are seriously adorable. These are perfect for any upcoming Galentine’s Day events or even just to keep in your dorm for a little sweet treat when studying.

Margo Washburne – Skinny Confidential Ice Roller

The Skinny Confidential, Hot Mess Ice Roller, $69

This is arguably the cutest facial tool on the market and with good reason. This ice roller, created by Lauryn Bosstick of Skinny Confidential, is the perfect addition to your current skincare routine to depuff and reduce redness.

Ella Mills – Earmuffs

Emi Jay, Sugar Muffs in Winter Dream, $44

Ella says her go-to winter accessory is earmuffs… any size, any color. These Emi Jay earmuffs come in a multitude of colors and all feature a star on the ear-piece for a fun, playful touch to any winter outfit.

Tyler Martin – Adidas Sambas

Adidas x Sporty & Rich, Samba, $240

Ever since purchasing a pair of Adidas sambas, I can’t take them off. They pair perfectly with any outfit, adding a sporty feel to any look. They come in a wide variety of colors, patterns and even collaborations, so you’re bound to find a pair you love.

Lizzie Sexton – Under Eye Patches

Dieux, Forever Eye Mask, $25

Undereye patches are perfect for those mornings when we have a little extra time and want to pamper ourselves. Cooling eye masks, like these reusable ones from Dieux, are great for depuffing and brightening. These specific eye masks were featured in Hailey Bieber’s vogue beauty secrets video… which means I must add to cart.
