Spring sprang sprung! As the winter cold in Dallas starts to disappear, spring is on the horizon, and recent temperatures have already reflected this. SMU students have been experiencing chilly early mornings with very hot afternoons. The common question is always What do you wear in this weather? A tank top and sunglasses, or your newest Parke mockneck?
Spring weather can be unpredictable, so don’t hang up all of your sweaters just yet. You may want to add in some light layers for those chilly mornings. Think about cardigans, shrugs, and wraps. For timeless layering inspiration, look to Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, whose minimalist formula — a sleek slip dress topped with a lightweight knit or tailored coat — remains the blueprint for transitional dressing.

Spring weather allows such fun colors to be added into your wardrobe. Butter yellow was the color of the season last year. While pastel colors will always be on trend with the season, Market in Highland Park Village is carrying more vibrant spring shades. Think bright reds, cobalt blue, and lime green. If you’re searching to be on trend this season, adding in these colors is a must.
Market is currently carrying a variety of different types of textiles, and remains a popular boutique amongst SMU students. If you take the time to browse their spring options, there are racks filled with florals, embellishments, fringe, and so much more. It’s a great spot to get inspiration for your spring wardrobe attire.

Spring time means warmer weather, and more time outside! This means the shoes you wear play a big part in the comfort of your spring wardrobe. You no longer need winter boots, and can pull out ballet flats and mules – which have become very popular on campus. For those looking to make an impact, Market is leaning into statement footwear in saturated colors and luxe textures like suede and pony hair.

If you do not feel the need to replenish your wardrobe, no worries! Making do with what you have is entirely possible as well. Start by rotating pieces you may have tucked away during winter like light-wash jeans and short-sleeve tops that can be easily styled with a cardigan or denim jacket for those cooler mornings. Swap your maroon and chocolate brown tops for more seasonal colors, and throw on some flats instead of Uggs. Even something as simple as adding a colorful bag or statement jewelry can refresh a look without buying anything new.
Spring style is less about purchasing a completely new wardrobe and more about styling smarter with what’s already in your closet.
