SMU Alpha Chi Omega Hosts 15th Annual Couture

By Anna Kelley

Zielke Alpha Chi hosts their signature philanthropy event to promote domestic violence awareness and prevention.

On February 24th, Alpha Chi Omega is hosting Couture. Their annual fashion show at the F.I.G. in downtown Dallas in support of domestic and intimate partner violence prevention and awareness. This year’s event is celebrating fifteen years of collaboration between Alpha Chi’s collegiate members and alumni for their combined initiative that has raised over one million dollars in the effort to combat domestic violence.

The show supports three organizations that promote domestic violence awareness and prevention: Genesis Women’s Shelter, One Love Foundation, and the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation. Over the last 14 years, Couture has donated over $900,000 to beneficiaries. Beneficiaries such as Genesis Shelter utilize the funds to partner with women who are hoping to escape potentially dangerous situations.

“The funds have made a tremendous impact in the fight to end domestic violence,” says Jan Langbein, the executive director of Genesis Women’s Shelter. “The event gives a voice to thousands of women and children who have been silent for too long.”

Couture is a unique event as it integrates a sensitive and somewhat taboo issue into a fun event that spreads awareness and provides victims an opportunity to feel the love, encouragement, and support of the community.

“Genesis is honored to be a part of this incredible event where young women come together to help restore hope, renew spirits and rebuild lives,” says Langbein.

Couture is a campus-wide event in which students from different backgrounds, organizations, and interests come together and have the opportunity to walk the runway or attend the show in support of domestic violence awareness. In addition, the hardworking staff at Genesis and survivors of domestic violence abuse have an opportunity to walk down the runway and feel the community’s appreciation and support for the amazing work they are doing.

Attire for all models is generously provided by Tootsies and Mizzen + Main, local and loved Dallas boutiques. They generously donate their time and talents to ensure the evening’s models look and feel their best and that Couture is a successful star-studded event.

In addition to the fashion show, Couture hosts a silent auction for attendees which raises additional funds for Alpha Chi’s beneficiaries. Silent auction items for the evening include items such as vacation packages, special experiences, health and beauty products, autographed memorabilia, dining vouchers, and much more.
