Tyler Talks Fashion: Knitwear to Navigate You Through Fall/Winter

By Tyler Martin

In my opinion, there is nothing more luxurious than gorgeous knitwear. Coats and layers are great and all, but there is something about a sweater or cardigan that is truly elevating as the temperature dips. Ranging from different price points and styles, I’ve rounded up my picks for the high-quality knitwear to guide you through the Fall/Winter fashion season:

The All-Around Pick

I went home to Chicago for Fall Break and came across the store COS on Oak Street. I had previously heard about this brand through social media and knew it was based in London, but I questioned the quality and fit when taking into account the more affordable pricing. After trying on a handful of sweaters at the store, I was so shocked by the composition and flattering fit. I purchased this basic cashmere sweater in this cool-toned, dark gray color as an amazing all around option to add to my knit-wear rotation this season.

The Cropped Cardi

I’m a little biased since I work seasonally at Aritzia, but their knitwear is truly incredible, so I always make sure I stock up when Fall rolls around. At such an approachable price point, Aritzia offers a wide variety of knits, some being trendy pieces and others more classic staples. I love this waist cardigan, which is perfect to throw on over your athleisure set or with your favorite pair of baggy denim jeans.

The Trendy

This red Jacquemus sweater is the perfect piece for someone who wants to stay on top of the trends. Red is undeniably the color of the season, so sporting this sweater will keep you on the fashion up and up. Try pairing this knit with black denim, a kitten heel and some fun accessories for your next sushi dinner in Dallas.

The Matching Set

Eterne is one of my favorite brand discoveries over the last few years. Their high-quality basics are unmatched, making them worth every dollar. This cropped sweater and long skirt set is simply to die for, and is an essential look for the transitional season. I envision this simple, neutral set with a pair of dad sandals and a slouchy bag.

The Most Desirable

I drool over Khaite’s knitwear every season and am manifesting a sweater from them one day. The cut and shape of their knits is so easily recognizable for its uniqueness and creativity. This creamy glaze color is simply perfect and is sure to compliment any fall/winter neutral fit.

The Dream Knit

Miu Miu is by-far my favorite designer brand, and their knitwear is nothing short of perfection. I love how they take a simple style and add a Miu Miu-spin by adding an interesting texture or gold button and, of course, their adorably fun logo. If you want to treat yourself this fall, a Miu Miu sweater is bound to make you look like a million bucks.

The Handmade

Who doesn’t love to support a friend? My friend Izzy Werdesheim, a junior at SMU, is passionate about creating thoughtful, unique knitwear pieces. She picked up a sewing machine a couple years ago and ever since, she has created countless clothing items by hand, ranging from tops to shorts to full-on dresses. She currently only makes pieces for friends and family, but I hope she expands her business because she truly has a talent and her pieces are incredible.
