As the semester has started to come to a close, I’ve found myself in desperate need of a little R&R. This past weekend, I had the luxury of my parents being in town, and thanks to them, I enjoyed a much-needed staycation at the Hôtel Swexan. Located uptown in the Harwood district, the hotel prides itself on being a place “for the old souls and the young at heart.”
Starting off the day strong at the popup sculpt class
I kicked off my stay by taking a workout class at the hotel gym. The Swexan hosts daily boutique workout classes, and this spring, the hotel is hosting Lexi Beder of Formbylex for a popup in the hotel’s space. The class consisted of a 60-minute heated sculpt workout that was low-impact but still intense. The music was amazing, and the space itself was a luxury, equipped with Forma Pilates equipment, pink Bala hand weights, and more. The class experience fostered collaboration, revealing a theme of attention to detail within the hotel, even extending to its splendid gym space. If a class is not your thing, the gym also offers a great selection of high-end workout equipment for guests to use on their own. Complimentary access to both the gym and its classes enhances the guest experience. However, outsiders are also welcome to attend classes for a fee, extending the invitation beyond the confines of a staycation.
Spa amenities and the pool
Following the class, I utilized the spa amenities including the sauna, steam room, and cold plunge. I rotated amongst these three for about an hour, and it was a fantastic body detox and reset. Following my workout, I went up to the 20th floor to the rooftop pool. The space is playful, bright, and gives all the energy of an exclusive day club in Miami. With lounge chairs, cabanas, and a DJ playing on weekends, I felt like I had left Dallas and was transported back to spring break. I indulged in a nonalcoholic “Mojito” which used Seedlip, a non-alcoholic spirit inspired by gin, adding a touch of luxury to the drink. My mom and I also ordered the crudités plate as a snack, which came with a green goddess hummus that was both satisfying and refreshing in the heat. Unfortunately, we had dinner plans later so we couldn’t try everything on the poolside menu. We heard people rave about the Tuna Nachos, so I’ll be adding that to my list of things to try during my next stay.
Hotel Bathroom
After our pool day, we made our way back to the room. The hotel’s decor struck the perfect blend of classic and modern pieces, providing a feeling of comfort and cleanliness while still maintaining a quirky charm. Our room was spacious and the gorgeous bathroom quickly became my favorite part. The bathroom space was entirely marble, juxtaposed with a dark-oak vanity sink area that was to die for. Lucky for me, the hotel offers my favorite Le Labo products, which significantly elevated my shower experience compared to my current living situation in sorority housing.
Getting ready for a night out at Babou’s
The hotel also has a speakeasy hidden within the library, Babou’s, guaranteeing that you can have a fun night out without even leaving the building. With its unique cocktails, dancing, and playful take on a library theme, a night at Babou’s will hopefully leave you without any Sunday scaries. Stillwell’s and Isabelle’s are the two restaurants located inside the hotel. Stillwell’s is a Texan-inspired steakhouse, while Isabelle’s brings European dining to Dallas. Isabelle’s also offers a memorable high-tea experience, where guests can enjoy teacakes, cucumber sandwiches, a variety of pastries, and a wide selection of champagne and tea.
Whether you’re seeking a weekend staycation, eager to indulge in classes and amenities at the hotel’s gym and spa, or looking to let loose for the night at Babou’s, Hôtel Swexan is the place to be.
