If you’re tapped into the Dallas influencer scene, the name Chris James Kahle’s probably rings a bell. Known for his lifestyle TikTok’s that spotlight the best of what Dallas has to offer, Kahle has built a loyal following and earned major trust when it comes to go-to recommendation, especially when it comes to where to have a good time.
As temperatures rise and summer vibes settle in, happy hour seems to come a little earlier, and sipping a margarita, spritz, or whatever you fancy on a sunny patio feels more like a must than a maybe.
That’s why I caught up with the expert of all things Dallas scene to get the inside scoop. From hidden gems to the hottest spots in town, here are Kahle’s top five must-visit spots to grab a drink outside in Dallas.
1. Las Palmas
Located in the Uptown area, Las Palmas has become a favorite of Kahle’s, especially when it comes to grabbing a seat outdoors and soaking in the vibes on the patio. The spot is housed in a pink stucco home, giving it a vintage, old-school feel that transports you out of the Dallas we know now.
“I think that it’s almost like I’m in Melrose or West Hollywood in California, because it’s this old Spanish style house. It’s so different from typical Dallas architecture. It’s a vibe. Like, you pull up and think, wait… what is this place?” Kahle said.
His go-to drink: A Skinny Margarita.
Beyond the ambiance, Kahle is a huge fan of the music, something he says can totally make or break a cocktail moment.
“I love, love, love their music. Sometimes I’ll go and they’re playing house, sometimes it’s cool ‘80s tracks. Either way, it’s always spot on.”
The perfect playlist while you sip on the perfect marg? Say less.
2. Doce Mesas
Beloved by many, Doce Mesas isn’t just a spot for top tier Tex Mex, it’s a whole experience.
Kahle discovered the place when he and his husband Austin lived nearby. It became their local go-to after walks around Knox, perfect for tacos, drinks, and one of Kahle’s favorite activities, people watching. According to him, this patio is elite for that.
“You’ve got SMU folks that go there, then you’ve got Highland Park, but then you’ve got everyone. And I like that,” he said.
His drink order? The L’Director with Lalo Tequila
The drink features Sicario Blanco Tequila, citrus and Cointreau, served up or on the rocks.
“It’s shaken, no ice, like a martini, and it’s so good. It’s strong, kinda like a skinny margarita, but served how you’d serve a martini, in a regular glass.”
With the combination of people-watching and a tequila-martini crossover, Doce sounds like the perfect landing spot after walking the Katy Trail for a midday drink.
3. Honor Bar
A Highland Park Village staple with an unbeatable view, Honor Bar is one of those places where one drink turns into a few. And yes, it’s officially CJK approved.
Kahle’s connection to the spot runs deep. He used to work as a regional leader for a store in the village and often traveled to Aspen, where he became a regular at White House Tavern (owned by the same restaurant group and known for a similar menu).
Fireplaces in the outdoor section keep things cozy even in cooler temps, making it a year-round gem, especially during the holidays when the Christmas lights are glowing.
His drink order? It depends on the season.
Warm months: Ranch Water with Lalo
Cooler months: Bourbon, straight up, preferably Buffalo Trace with one big ice cube
4. Beverly’s
If you’re in a spritz mood (and let’s, be real, it’s always the season), Beverly’s is the spot.
Kahle’s go-to here? The Aperol Spritz.
“Beverly’s was brand new, maybe like two or three weeks open, and I was there with all my friends. During summer, I love an Aperol Spritz, but I was kind of tipsy and asked the waitress for an aerosol spritz. Everyone lost it, including the waitress. She was like, ‘OMG, aerosol spritz!’ I’ll never live it down. But ever since, when it’s a nice day, I’m ordering an Aperol.”
But he’s also a fan of mixing it up with other cocktails. The spot recently added a summer mango margarita, which he’s a fan of, along with his forever favorite, a skinny margarita with Lalo.
5. Bowen House
More of a nighttime vibe, but Kahle insists it deserves a spot, especially if your daytime drinking accidentally turns into an evening affair. (We’ve all been there). The Bowen House is a sister concept to Las Palmas, making it the perfect spot to continue the vibes after enjoying some drinks and dinner at the Tex-Mex restaurant’s patio.
His drink order? The Carajillo.
“It’s like the new Espresso Martini. Same energy, but it comes in a bourbon style glass. It’s made with Monkey 47, and honestly, it’s just sexier. It’s vibier. People are saying Espresso Martinis are out for 2025, and Carajillos are in.”
As an avid espresso martini fan, I am ready to embrace the Carajillo as one of my new drinks of choice this summer.
So, whether it’s a sunny Saturday with friends or you’re ducking out of your 9 to 5 a little early for a well-earned cocktail, these spots are certified summer hits. And trust us, if anyone knows the places to be, it’s the unofficial Dallas guide himself, Chris James Kahle.
