Fashion Week has just begun and Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren are setting the bar high with their Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear Collections.

Both designers featured top models in their shows as Gigi Hadid opened for Ralph Lauren, with Winnie Harlow and Ashley Graham among the Hilfiger crew. Simple but clean lines of tailored suits and fitted dresses dot both runways.

The Ralph Lauren show, held inside “Ralph’s Club,” offered us what can only be described as old school glamorous. The classic “smoking” cocktail dresses and revamped suits occasionally featured embellishments and sequins with, dare I say, Gatsby-level glamour vibes.

The designer didn’t leave us completely colorless. Ralph Lauren threw in 11 bright pieces in solid, primary colors. The canary yellow fur collar and tuxedo dress were my personal favorites.

Held at the Apollo Theatre, the Tommy Hilfiger show presented the collaboration with Euphoria actress, Zendaya. Houndstooth, polka dots, checkered, plaid, and snake prints, all in classic winter tones, stormed the runway. The only non-neutral color found in this collection was a deep burgundy. However, Hilfiger played with different fabrics and textures such as leather, velour, cotton, satin – all in quintessential fall tones, of course. Zendaya wanted the collection to have as much soul as the location, telling Vogue backstage that, “It’s a place that has such history and soul, it’s a dream location.”

The collection stayed true to its recent 70s look with tight pantsuits and striking belts, not to mention the ever-so-disco see-through pink frames. Both Zendaya and Tommy Hilfiger seemed very in their element with this era and it showed throughout the collection.

Each show had their own era of interest, but both came to show that what goes around, comes around. We might all be looking back in time for our Fall 2019 inspiration.
