Stalking Sotheby’s: Amsterdam Edition

Ah, Amsterdam in the spring: chilly, grey, and getting ready for its famous tulip season. Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities in Europe. Modern yet quaint, it’s such a beautiful beacon of history.

Now, as the time for what would have been spring break approaches and with Europe still closed due to COVID, I have retreated to Sotheby’s again as a way to relax, unwind, and search for my future house.

1. Minimalism at its Finest, $5.1 million

First on the list is a completely remodeled, obsessively minimalist apartment in one of Amsterdam’s historic buildings along the Prinsengracht. Not only is it centrally located, but the design of the apartment is unparalleled. Natural light floods in from the floor-to-ceiling windows, and the outside is brought in through the patio at the center of the home. Minimalist yet warm and inviting, this apartment is the epitome of European design: calm, cool, and collected.

2. Museum Quality, $2.7 million

Next up, a home that captures my style to a tee. While the historic building has been redone, complete with a gorgeous, clean-lined kitchen, the owners kept the original ceiling carvings, crown moldings, and exquisite herringbone floors. Complete with outstanding art, original floor-to-ceiling windows, and plushy finishes, this mix of the old and the new is absolutely breathtaking and worth every penny.

3. Good Bones, $1.8 million

Located along the canal, this artist’s loft is nothing short of incredible. Original, exposed beams span the length of the apartment, adding warmth and richness to an otherwise minimalist space. Additionally, the loft’s impressive windows and expansive backyard help bring the outside in, giving the loft a light, airy ambiance. Finally, as if that wasn’t enough, the loft boasts an incredible downstairs library and a state-of-the-art kitchen.

4. The Family House of my Dreams, $6.1 million

Last but certainly not least: my favorite house on this list, and quite possibly one of my favorite houses I’ve ever seen. Located in the exclusive Koningslaan neighborhood, next to Vondelpark, this twentieth-century castle is the perfect blend of old and new. Combining medieval, ornate details and modern lines, this villa in the heart of Amsterdam is undoubtedly one-of-a-kind and just might be my ideal house. And, listed at $6.1 million, it’s quite a steal.
