Donatella Versace blessed the fashion world with a stunning collection during Milan Fashion Week. Looking ahead to the Fall 2022 season, Versace’s runway showcased Latex leggings layered under boxy blazers, glossy puffer jackets, and an array of flattering corset tops. This collection brings in rich colors of red and black, donning the sexual appeal that Versace is known for.
Versace brings forward satin coats from her men’s collection, “…it represents a next step and a move forward,” she said upon its release. She highlights how this collection embraces diversity and captures the new generation’s attention. One major trend of fashion in the eyes of Gen-Z is the mini skirt. Versace showcases this piece in various fabrics, including denim and satin, most of the time paired over latex leggings.
The corset, one of the main focal points of most looks displayed on the runway, was shown in various styles. My favorite was a plum purple strapless mini dress and a longer dress in green. Corsets are not a new concept in the world of Versace, which has always used the cinched waist design to draw the world of fashion into the sex appeal of the brand. This silhouette is familiar throughout the newest collection, not just with the corset top. With low-cut tops and boxy shoulders showcased in the designs of the pieces, a slim waist is a typical pattern seen in most of the Fall 2022 designs.
Tweed and leather are also a commonality between many of the pieces. Both autumn staples that have been seen in past collections, Versace’s continuation of this look tells that these elements are here to stay.
One of my favorite additions to the collection is the use of fur. Fur hats, a newer trend within the past year, were shown paired with fur coats in shades of red and green.
This collection indeed took my breath away. Here are my predictions for what to watch for in trends moving into the Fall season:
- Corsets (tops, dresses, and just the silhouette in general)
- Leather (jackets and dresses)
- Latex (leggings and boots, especially in black and darker colors)
- Coats with accentuated, broad shoulders
- Blazers
- Fur (coats and hats)
- Low cut and v-neck tops
- Gloves with evening wear
- Puffer jackets and trench coats
Below are some of my favorite looks from the collection…
